Victoria University’s English language centre, VU English, has been given a glowing endorsement from Australia’s peak accrediting body for English language colleges, receiving gold stars in all areas of quality control.
The National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS), which provides independent quality assurance to English language centres in schools, universities and colleges Australia-wide, recently assessed the quality and delivery of courses at VU English across five key areas; teaching, learning and assessment; student engagement; resources and facilities; administration and management; and staffing.
Using a new Quality Endorsement methodology, the NEAS evaluation included comprehensive interviews with VU English staff and students, along with indepth focus groups, to ensure VU English continues to meet rigorous standards in English language tuition.
In her evaluation of VU English, NEAS representative Margaret Kinvig said it was "an absolute pleasure to see a quality centre in action".
She reported the students feel welcome at VU English, reflecting the caring and supportive culture within the school. She also reported that students are very positive about their learning and teachers.
VU English Director of Studies Dianne McKeagney said the positive review reflects the commitment and professionalism of staff at VU English.
"We have a very dedicated and passionate educational team which strives to create a supportive learning environment for all our students," Ms McKeagney said.
Based in the heart of Melbourne at VU’s City Flinders Campus, VU English offers a range of courses designed to improve international students’ English language proficiency and prepare them to study diplomas, degrees, masters and PhDs.
VU English General Manager Michael Ratcliff (pictured) said NEAS uses a rigorous endorsement method that aligns with the Federal Government’s Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).
He said the endorsement is a reflection of the outstanding quality of teaching and learning at VU English.
"We are delighted to receive such a strong and positive endorsement of our work," Mr Ratcliff said.
"Our students can be confident that they are studying at one of the best English language centres in Australia," he said.
