Airport reception for international students

When you first arrive in Melbourne as an international student visa holder who will study at VU Melbourne, we can welcome you at the airport and take you to your accommodation.

You must apply for airport reception at least 5 days before you arrive in Melbourne. It is a free service.

Before you book

There are some important things you need to consider before you book our airport reception service:

International student visa holder (subclass 500)

Only VU international students with a student visa (subclass 500) are eligible for this service. Each VU student must submit their own airport reception booking request.

Additional passengers

Additional passengers (e.g. family members) will need to pay AUD$50 (Australian dollars) per person. This fee needs to be paid in cash to the driver. Additional passengers will be taken to the student's accommodation.

A maximum of two additional passengers is allowed. There is also a maximum of 1 large suitcase per additional passenger.


There is a maximum baggage limit of 40kg:

  • two pieces of standard check-in luggage
  • one carry on item.

No bikes, surfboards, golf equipment, musical instruments or other large items are allowed.

If you have more than this baggage allowance, you cannot use VU’s airport reception.

When your arrive

Important: Mobile phones, cameras, video cameras and recording devices must not be used in Australian Customs and Border Protection Service-controlled areas.

The instructions for international arrivals are different to domestic arrivals. Please read the correct instructions for your flight:

Flight delays, changes or cancellations

If there are changes before your flight leaves, you must email [email protected] with the new information. 

If there are changes while you are travelling, you must phone, text or WhatsApp message Togoto on +61 409 503 646. For example:

  • to advise your flight is delayed
  • to advise if you are waiting for your luggage after you arrive
  • if you can't find your driver.

If you wish to cancel your airport reception booking, you must email [email protected] at least 24 hours before your arrival time.
