To be considered for postgraduate study, you will need to have specific academic qualifications, as outlined below. We also consider non-academic research and work experience for our research candidates.
Admission criteria
Completion of an Australian bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree from countries other than Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland will be required to complete IELTS: Overall 7.0 with Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 7.5. OR the following scores that serve as equivalent scores for the IELTS: • ISPLR: Overall (3+) L (4), R (3+), W (3+), S (4) • TOEFL: Overall (94), L (27), R (21), W (24), S (24) • PTE: Overall (65-72), L (73), R (58), W (58), S (73) Applicants with a minimum of a 3 year Bachelor’s degree from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland will not be required to complete IELTS.

Applicants must hold a valid Working with Children Check prior to commencing any professional placement. This course is ACECQA accredited and recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) for early childhood teacher registration in Victoria. It is also recognised for early childhood teacher accreditation by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). Graduates seeking to teach in New South Wales are required to register with NESA. In Victoria, the VIT states that individuals wishing to teach in an early childhood setting must hold an ACECQA approved early childhood teaching qualification. This course meets those requirements. National Child Safety Training: All students enrolled in Early Childhood courses are required to complete the National Child Safety Training prior to commencing professional placement. This training is delivered through the Australian Government’s Geccko platform https://www.education.gov.au/early-childhood/about/quality-and-safety/national-child-safety-training. and is a mandatory requirement under the National Child Safety Reform for the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector. In addition, students must complete the relevant Child Protection Training required by the state or territory in which they will undertake placement. This training must be completed prior to placement and renewed annually to maintain compliance. Upon completion of both training requirements, students must upload their certificates and relevant expiry dates to their WIL Student Profile. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all documentation remains current and reflects the required renewal periods. Students who do not complete the required training and upload valid evidence to WIL prior to placement will not be permitted to attend placement until all requirements have been met.
