VU Block Model International Scholarship

Eligibility

Full details

All new international students commencing a foundation, higher education diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) course with VU Melbourne in 2024 are eligible for the scholarship*. You must also meet the course entry requirements.

To be eligible to continue receiving the scholarship in subsequent years, you will need to complete 96 credit points each year and achieve the following WAM:

• 50% WAM: 10% scholarship
• 70% WAM: 20% scholarship
• 80% WAM: 30% scholarship

* English (ELICOS), Vocational Education and Training (VET) and research courses are not included in the scholarship. Sponsored students are not eligible for the scholarship.

Eligibility exceptions

The value of the VU Block Model® International Scholarship will vary for students in the following circumstances:

Onshore applicants

All new international students who apply to study at VU Melbourne from onshore in Australia will be awarded a 20% scholarship for their first year if they meet the entry requirements for an eligible course. 30% scholarships are available to high achievers.

After successfully completing 96 credit points at VU Melbourne, students will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the WAM criteria listed in the eligibility section.

Engineering

All new international students will be awarded a 20% scholarship for their first year if they meet the entry requirements for the following Engineering degrees, with 30% scholarships available to higher achievers:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil Engineering)
• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical Engineering)
• Master of Engineering.

Students on these degrees will be eligible to continue receiving the scholarship in subsequent years based on assessment of the standard WAM criteria described above.

Bachelor of Nursing

All new international students in the Bachelor of Nursing will receive a 10% scholarship only for their first year but will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the standard WAM criteria at the end of each year of study.

Associate Degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management

All new international students in the Associate Degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management will receive a 10% scholarship only for their first year but will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the standard WAM criteria at the end of each year of study.

Pathway / one-year courses

All new international students in the following courses will receive a 10% scholarship only but will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the standard WAM criteria if they pathway into further studies at VU Melbourne:

• Foundation courses (course codes: JQAG / JQAH)
• Higher Education Diplomas (course codes: VDBE / VDIT / EDES)
• Graduate Certificates (course codes: ATDM / ATID / ETED / HTGP / NTAI / NTCS)
• Graduate Diplomas (course codes: AGDM / AGID / EGEC / LGML / NGCS / NGPM)

TAFE courses

Technical and Further Education (TAFE) courses at VU are not included in the scholarship.

However, students who complete a TAFE course and transfer into an eligible higher education course will be awarded a 20% scholarship for their first year of study.

After successfully completing 96 credit points at VU Melbourne, they will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the standard WAM criteria.

Partner institution transfers

All international students transferring from overseas partner institutions will be awarded a 20% scholarship for their first year of study at VU Melbourne if the remaining duration of their course is eight units or more.

After successfully completing 96 credit points at VU Melbourne, they will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the standard WAM criteria. If the duration of their onshore study at VU Melbourne is less than eight units, they will receive a 10% scholarship only.

Onshore applicants

All new international students who apply to study at VU Melbourne from onshore in Australia will be awarded a 20% scholarship for their first year if they meet the entry requirements for an eligible course. 30% scholarships are available to high achievers.

After successfully completing 96 credit points at VU Melbourne, students will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the WAM criteria listed in the eligibility section.

Engineering degrees

All new international students will be awarded a 20% scholarship for their first year if they meet the entry requirements for the following Engineering degrees, with 30% scholarships available to higher achievers:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil Engineering)
• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical Engineering)
• Master of Engineering.

Students on these degrees will be eligible to continue receiving the scholarship in subsequent years based on assessment of the standard WAM criteria described above.

All new international students in the following courses will receive a 10% scholarship only but will be eligible for scholarship reassessment based on the standard WAM criteria if they pathway into further studies at VU Melbourne:

Terms & conditions

• The VU Block Model^® International Scholarship is awarded at the sole discretion of the University.
• Successful applicants will be notified in their offer letter. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified. 
• Students who have received a scholarship or sponsorship from another organisation for their VU course are not eligible for this scholarship.
• Students must pay the required tuition fee deposit to accept their offer. The remaining balance is due before the Census date of the course.
• The VU Block Model^® International Scholarship is not refundable or convertible to cash.
• The VU Block Model^® International Scholarship cannot be transferred to another individual or course.   
• The VU Block Model^® International Scholarship cannot be deferred into commencement in a new study period without reassessment of eligibility.
• New students receiving advanced standing for previous studies are eligible for the VU Block Model^® International Scholarship for the remaining standard duration of eligible courses. If the remaining duration is eight units or less, they will receive a 10% scholarship only. 
• Students with approval to reduce their study load are eligible to receive a reduced scholarship, based on the number of units taken (pro-rata) until the course end date in their letter of offer.
• Students returning from approved Leave of Absence (Intermission) are eligible to continue receiving the scholarship until the course end date in their letter of offer.
• Current VU students receiving a different VU scholarship who wish to change from one course to another with advanced standing (credits) are eligible for a continuation of their existing scholarship only.
• Students applying for re-admission are eligible for a 10% scholarship only.
• After each year of study (96 credit points), students must maintain a required Weighted Average Mark (WAM) for the scholarship as below:
  • 50% WAM: 10% scholarship
  • 70% WAM: 20% scholarship
  • 80% WAM: 30% scholarship
• Students will continue to remain eligible to receive the VU Block Model^® International Scholarship and the extension of the scholarship providing they pay all tuition and additional fees/costs in full by census date each study period and meet the conditions of their student visa.
• Scholarships only apply to eligible students during their period of study at VU and cannot be allocated retrospectively to students who are no longer enrolled.
• The University’s decision concerning the assessment of eligibility for the Scholarship is final, and there is no right of appeal should the student be unsuccessful in securing the scholarship or have the scholarship withdrawn.
