Overview

Gain the skills to support allied-health services in aged care, disability and other healthcare settings in the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance HLT43021 at Victoria University (VU).

Delivered by expert staff through our award-winning blended learning, this health-assistant course will train you to work alongside health professionals such as physiotherapists or occupational therapists.

You'll learn to identify healthcare issues and risks, along with the protocols for reporting these issues. During a work placement in a care setting, you will consolidate your new skills so you're ready to work when you graduate.

When you finish the course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to:

provide support to allied health professionals as they deliver programs and therapy
work effectively under the guidance of an allied health professional
identify circumstances that need the attention of the allied health professional
work in a common or speciality area to help deliver allied health services
work with allied health professionals, including to help supervise other allied health assistance workers if required.

: This qualification reflects the role of allied health assistants who provide therapeutic and program related support to persons, in health, aged care, disability and any other settings where Allied Health Professionals provide services. Allied Health Assistants work under the delegation and supervision of Allied Health Professionals and assist in identifying circumstances and risks and reporting issues.
Supervision may be direct, indirect or remote and must occur within organisational requirements, according to the individual allied health assistant’s scope of practice and experience.
They may be engaged to work in a single discipline or multidisciplinary roles not limited to health, aged care or disability services and other settings and may also have responsibility for other allied health assistance workers according to their scope of practice.To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of clinical placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

You may also be eligible for ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’, which lets you finish your course more quickly when you have gained some of the skills required from past study or work experience.

Vaccine requirement

All students must have any COVID-19 vaccine before beginning placements.

You need to provide evidence of having had the COVID-19 vaccine to undertake a placement and progress within the course.

You must be willing to undergo any additional checks and immunisations as directed by the University.

Course Structure

To be awarded the HLT43021 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, a total of eighteen (18) units must be achieved, comprising:

* ten (10) core units * eight (8) elective units, of which:- at least six (6) units must be from the electives listed in the training package, and at least four (4) of these units must be coded HLTAHA

- up to two (2) units from the electives listed below, any endorsed Training Package or accredited course – this unit must be relevant to the work outcome.
