    Overview

    The aim of this unit is to expose students to a range of management issues in the area of new digital technology design production. The unit opens with coverage of project management principles relevant to new technology development. Established and new industry approaches are critically appraised including; agile software development, product release methodology, and content strategy. Underpinning the unit is the application of design thinking to create a series of prototypes, and we explore the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Important industry considerations such as inclusive design, sustainability, and collaboration are also explored. The unit closes with an investigation of employee management in the context of design, for instance, the difference between a producer, project manager and product owner.

    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Research and critique theory exploring management of new digital technology design projects;
    2. Critically reflect on one’s practice and how to ‘future proof’ a career, reframe to manage setbacks, adapt to changes, recognise and deal with associated stress and “resilience”;
    3. Adjudicate the expectations of a range of stakeholders, interact positively and professionally with others in a way that is sensitive to different cultural and inclusive workplace contexts;
    4. Persuade others regarding a design direction or process, understand how to present professionally in different formats;
    5. Troubleshoot common workplace scenarios involved in leading design teams; and
    6. Design and develop digital imaging and presentations using a range of tools.
