Engineering her way to success

Civil Engineering student Nunu Sarum achieved uni success and life balance in first year, thanks to her experience with VU's Block Model. She was recently named the first recipient of the Victoria University/City West Water 'Celebrating Women in STEM' scholarship valued up to $15,000.

"It excites me to be involved in designing and constructing infrastructure for the future. I’ve always loved figuring out how things work so engineering was the perfect fit for me.

I find the practical, problem-based style of learning and smaller classes with VU's Block Model really beneficial.

With the Block Model being three classes per week I have time to work, tutoring primary school maths. It's great to earn an income doing something fulfilling outside of uni.

Focusing on one unit at a time means you can really get it right. With the smaller classes I've been able to interact and make connections with my classmates and the teacher too.

We went on two excursions during the year – including the water treatment plant in Werribee. It was really interesting to find out what’s behind the processes with our water.

I’m achieving great results with the Block Model – so I'm really happy with that!
