We are the first Australian university to use a 'block' model of learning, which builds a degree program from units studied in sequential blocks consisting of four, seven or eight weeks.
The model is structured around the idea that deep, active learning happens when students focus on one or two subjects at a time and work in small classes. The small class size supports cohorts that work with and help each other in a community where everyone is known and respected.
Block Mode learning and teaching is unique, and is new for everyone coming to teach at VU. The guides on this page have been developed from a broad evidence base, as well as three years of experience in block mode teaching at VU.
