VU top 3 in Australia for international student learner engagement

Victoria University (VU) ranked third in Australia and first in Victoria for Learner Engagement among higher education students, in the Australian Government’s 2020 International Student Experience Survey (ISES), released this month. The ISES is an annual survey that provides a national framework for data collection, on key aspects of the higher education international student experience.

The latest results also placed VU as the highest-ranked public university in Victoria for the Quality of Entire Educational Experience, Skills Development, and Teaching Quality.

VU Block model students excel during pandemic

These strong results reflect the positive student experience within VU’s revolutionary Block Model.

While the University adapted its delivery mode in response to COVID-19 with students attending classes online, in real-time, importantly the size of the classes didn’t change. Students still studied in smaller, collaborative classes (often of 35 students or less) and were able to continue engaging directly with their teacher in real-time. Studying one unit at a time with the VU Block Model also enabled students to maintain focus and continue to achieve their pre-pandemic results.

In addition to delivering a fantastic student experience, the VU Block Model and award-winning First Year College continue to bring academic success to international students, with the unit pass rate at over 90% and almost 55% of these results at distinction-level or higher.

The ISES measures five aspects of the student experience: Skills Development, Learner Engagement, Teaching Quality, Student Support and Learning Resources, compiled for an overall score of Quality of Entire Educational Experience.

Among all Australian universities, for international students VU is ranked:

• 3rd for Learner Engagement (1st in Victoria)
• 6th for Skills Development and Teaching Quality (1st in Victoria)
• 8th for Quality of Entire Education Experience (1st in Victoria).
