VU will prepare Wyndham secondary school students for high-tech jobs of the future as a host in the Victorian Government’s new ‘tech school’ initiative announced yesterday.

As one of the state’s 10 new Centres of Technological Excellence, up to 12,000 Wyndham high school students will have access to the latest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) education at Wyndham Tech School, in a shared learning and training centre to be located at VU’s Werribee Campus.

Students from Years 7-12 can use the centre for interactive classes and activities, beginning as early as 2017.

They will also be offered training opportunities alongside regular schooling.

Industry focus

Wyndham Tech will have an educational focus on the following industries predicted to experience future strong economic and employment growth:

  • health
  • transport and logistics
  • scientific and technical professional services
  • construction

VU Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Dawkins said VU welcomed the opportunity to build on its 100-year history as an educator provider.
