1,405 staff cast their vote – with an overwhelming majority voting ‘Yes’ to the new Agreement.

The new 2025 Victoria University Enterprise Agreement will take effect 7 days after the approval of the Fair Work Commission and will run until 1 September 2027. The new Agreement includes:

  • salary increases for staff over the life of the Agreement
  • enhancements for Teaching Focused Academic and Academic sessional staff
  • sector-leading cultural load workload allocation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff
  • new leave enhancements
  • hybrid work arrangements for professional staff
  • Gender Affirmation Leave.

The agreement was presented by senior management, with approval from employee representatives. VU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker extended his deepest thanks to University and employee Enterprise Bargaining negotiation teams, and both higher education and professional colleagues.

“Most of all, I would like to thank every person in the VU community who took the time to vote,” he said.

Professor Shoemaker also highlighted the importance of the Agreement to the University’s strategic vision:

As we implement our strategy, it is important to take stock of our progress. This is a growing institution with big goals and even bigger heart. This new agreement will continue to enable us to play our part in nurturing the west of Melbourne as a thriving place to study, work and live – where talented people can achieve their aspirations – an important part of our social contract and responsibility.
