Nursing students awarded for excellence

Two students have been awarded the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Vic Branch Aware Super Student Awards for displaying excellence in nursing theory and clinical practice. The students were nominated by their teachers at Victoria University Polytechnic.

The ANMF Vic Branch awards an annual prize to outstanding final year nursing students from every Victorian university and TAFE. The nomination carries a prize of $200 and certificate with a summary of their achievements. Winners are announced at an award presentation ceremony in December.

Congratulations to the recipients, Casey Teale and Anthony Stalio. Both students were nominated based on their excellent communication skills, understanding of ethical and professional nursing, appreciation of the concept of excellence in nursing, and understanding of a caring and therapeutic relationship.

The teachers from Diploma of Nursing HLT54115 say it was not easy to nominate two students among a group of 90 students based at St Albans and Werribee campuses:

There were many promising students in both groups, but Casey and Anthony stood out because of their dedication to learning and outstanding commitment to nursing.

Celebrating Casey and Anthony’s nominations were long awaited. After two years, the awards ceremony was held at the ANMF Central Office in Melbourne CBD. Most universities, TAFE colleges and training organisations were represented.

It was a very moving experience seeing Casey and Anthony dressed in their very best, walking up the stage, and being congratulated by Lisa Fitzpatrick, ANMF State Secretary. Behind them, their name on the big screen and the name of their school and campus with a summary of their achievements.

As a teacher, you travel the journey with your students. With them, you go through the ups and downs. Towards the end, they reach the top and are ready to fly. Great opportunities are waiting for them.
