Overview

This unit introduces students to modern computer operating systems, their major components and roles. Students will use the command line to install and maintain operating systems; configure basic networking and web-related services.



Content includes: Operating System (OS) concepts, Operating System architectures, memory management, file systems, Command Line Interface (CLI) and basic scripting.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Depict the basic Operating System (OS) architectures, functions, and roles of operating systems;
  2. Explain the functions of key operating system components for managing processes, devices, files and memory;
  3. Administer and secure a Windows Operating System, including CLI commands;
  4. Administer and secure a Linux Operating System using CLI commands, and;
  5. Develop and deploy network services on a Network Operating System.
