HMG7950 - Research Methods in Public Health

This unit is designed to be taken by students who want to consolidate their public health skills and knowledge through work on an applied project. Students will gain an opportunity to plan, implement, and evaluate a discrete project with a key industry partner or within an area of interest for the Victoria University Public Health team. The project will enable students to prepare for a future in the Public Health profession through applying knowledge gained throughout the Masters of Global Public Health to a real world context. The unit also plays an important role to support students to transition to the Public Health workforce.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Exemplify ethical conduct, work readiness, and professionalism in Public Health contexts;
  2. Exhibit a commitment to the core values of Public Health through the application of skills and knowledge acquired in public health studies;
  3. Formulate and implement a responsive, place-based public health project that is informed by the setting and context and integrates systems thinking;
  4. Adapt the project to address challenges and needs as they arise and respond to evidence gathered during implementation; and
  5. Critically reflect and discourse on the process, outcomes, and impacts of the project with a focus on sustainable improvements on population health.
