Overview

This unit introduce advanced technical knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) related to all BIM dimensions including architectural modelling, scheduling, cost estimation and energy analysis. The student will develop competency to critically review and appraise BIM visualizations and life cycle integrations. The content also comprehensively perform clash detection using architectural, mechanical and electrical models and interpret the results within the construction team. The unit also focus on critical examination of current BIM standards, BIM management concepts as required by a BIM manager in the construction industry to facilitate complex construction projects.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Develop a well-defined process using BIM to ensure collaboration between all project participants with the client requirements;
  2. Interpret the BIM terminologies and gain knowledge on project execution plans using BIM management concepts;
  3. Design for efficient management of resources and use of software in the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology and management;
  4. Review and appraise BIM visualization techniques, standards and building life cycle integrations.
