Overview

This unit explores advanced mobile network architectures, security challenges, and AI-driven cybersecurity measures for mobile communications. Students will analyse mobile network evolution (3G, 4G, 5G, and 6G), critically assess cybersecurity threats, and design security frameworks incorporating AI-driven risk detection. The unit also includes practical applications in mobile network security, network forensics, and AI-assisted defense strategies.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate the evolution of mobile networks from 3G to 6G, identifying technical advancements, security vulnerabilities, and emerging challenges;
  2. Analyse and assess cybersecurity risks in mobile environments, including endpoint security, phishing threats, SIM swapping, and insecure networks, applying AI-driven defense mechanisms;
  3. Formulate AI-enhanced methodologies for mobile network security, traffic monitoring, and malware detection, integrating ethical considerations and policy frameworks;
  4. Design and implement a secure mobile communication architecture, incorporating AI-assisted network optimisation, security automation, and anomaly detection; and,
  5. Synthesise and communicate research findings on mobile security frameworks and risk mitigation strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
