    Overview

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge to investigate the education system. It includes examining the links between key national and state government policies and the requirements to work as a teacher. This unit applies to learners who need to develop their knowledge of the Victorian education system to support entry into and participation in an undergraduate teacher education course.

    Assessment

    For Melbourne campuses

    Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each units learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

    Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
    • access and analyse information about the Victorian school education system including:

    • the relationship between key Victorian and National education policies and frameworks
    • sectors within the school education system
    • education frameworks and their links to learning
    • study options to obtain teaching qualifications
    • teacher responsibilities and requirements
      • analyse, interpret and use information to investigate a specific education sector

    Required reading

    The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VU Polytechnic and/or via the VU Polytechnic e-learning system.
