Health Economics Evaluation and Policy provides students with an introduction to the methods of health economic evaluation and related principles. The unit provides an in-depth critical review of the primary methods used in health economics. Students will be equipped to undertake analyses such as cost utility, effectiveness and benefit analyses.. Students will critically review health economic evaluation studies as well as practice identifying, measuring and valuing economic costs and related health outcomes. Students will critically examine contemporary public health issues and the complex social and cultural factors that impact diverse communities. Students will critically reflect on how health economic evaluation and policy can equitably respond to public health issues.
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
Articulate knowledge of the principal methods of economic evaluation to address existing and emergent health problems;
Critically review the uses of health economics and economic principles to evaluate policies and practices to enhance population health;
Devise appropriate solutions to health issues using contemporary economic evaluation tools; and
Critically evaluate the benefits and challenges of conducting health economics analyses in addressing health policy issues for diverse populations, including in the context of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander public health.
