Overview

This unit examines community psychology interventions in individual, group and broader community settings. The emphasis is on evidence-based interventions, and the capacity to plan, apply and evaluate interventions engaging community psychology frameworks. The varied roles of community psychologists working across diverse and dynamic settings will be explored. Intervention skills including group work, mediation, social and policy change will be introduced.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse and evaluate community psychology intervention frameworks; from individual to broader community contexts, including cultural factors and notions of empowerment;
  2. Critically review and reflect on individual and group intervention approaches that engage community psychology frameworks in light of local, national and international practices; and
  3. Adapt and exhibit community psychology intervention principles and skills in relation to project evaluation.
