Overview

The unit aims to develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking, grammar and vocabulary skills necessary to undertake a TAFE course at Victoria University.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Reading: 1. Comprehend and analyse information from a variety of texts for a range of purposes; 2. Comprehend a range of formatted texts for study purposes; 3. Follow complex instructions.
  2. Writing: 1. Write a variety of straight forward texts for a range of purposes (information report, argumentative essay, reflective journal); 2. Complete a range of forms for everyday and study purposes; 3. Complete a range of forms for everyday and study purposes.
  3. Speaking: 1. Engage in formal group interaction in a study context; 2. Participate in a range of interactions in formal and informal contexts; 3. Give complex instructions; 4. Prepare and give an oral presentation on a researched topic.
  4. Listening: 1. Demonstrate understanding in formal group interaction in a study context; 2. Respond to a range of interactions in formal and informal contexts; 3. Demonstrate understanding of complex instructions and questions related to study tasks; 4. Demonstrate understanding of a range of information texts for study purposes.
