Overview

The unit will aim to develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking, grammar and vocabulary skills necessary to undertake the EAP3 unit.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Reading: 1. Comprehend a range of message and letters; 2. Comprehend a range of formatted texts for everyday purposes; 3. Follow a range of instructions and directions; and 4. Comprehend and respond to a range of extended texts.
  2. Writing: 1. Write a range of messages and letters; 2. Complete a range of forms for everyday purposes; 3. Write a range of instructions and directions; and 4. Write a text about a familiar situation event or experience.
  3. Speaking: 1. Engage in a range of conversations; 2. Make requests and inquiries in a range of transactions; 3. Give instructions and directions; and 4. Give a talk on a familiar topic.
  4. Listening: 1. Demonstrate understanding in casual conversation; 2. Respond to a range of requests and enquirers in everyday transactions; 3. Follow instructions and directions; and 4. Demonstrate understanding of simple oral texts.
  5. Study Skills: 1. Identify and locate online and community based language learning resources related to personal interests; 2. Clarify language learning goals; 3. Confirm an individual learning plan; and 4. Monitor and update the individual learning plan.
