Overview

This unit will provide students with a fundamental theoretical and technical understanding of organisational behaviour and management theories, with a particular focus on the application of these within a hospitality or hotel environment. Students will design and communicate solutions to unpredictable and complex organisational issues through the application of core organisational and management theory. The practical application of this knowledge will focus on managing diversity in the workplace, managing conflict, leading and managing people, and the operational elements of human resources within a hospitality and hotel management context.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse, interpret and transmit management and organisational behaviour practices;
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of organisational behaviour, management and human resources concepts and principles as they relate to the successful operations of a hotel or hospitality business;
  3. Apply organisational behaviour and management theories when managing conflict, team collaboration and team performance to achieve key goals and objectives in the modern diverse workplaces; and
  4. Evaluate and discuss operational elements of human resourcing, such as rostering staff within a hospitality or hotel environment.
