Overview

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to use advanced computational processes to provide solutions to energy sector engineering problems. It includes providing solutions to energy sector engineering problems, applying problem-solving techniques, using a range of advanced mathematical processes, providing solutions to problems and completing documentation.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • applying relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, including
  • using risk control measures
  • completing work and documenting problem-solving activities
  • dealing with unplanned events in accordance with problem-solving techniques and workplace procedures
  • documenting justification of solutions provided
  • obtaining known constants and variables
  • providing computational solutions to energy sector engineering problems
  • solving problems using appropriate mathematical processes
  • stating problems in written and diagrammatic form.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VU Polytechnic and/or via the Victoria University Polytechnic e-Learning system.
