Overview

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply physics to solving electrotechnology engineering problems. It includes identifying and solving physics-related problems and documenting justifications. It also includes applying knowledge of measurement techniques.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • applying measured values to developing solutions to static and dynamic problems
  • applying relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, including
  • using risk control measures
  • applying the laws of physics to developing solutions to electrotechnology problems
  • dealing with unplanned events in accordance with problem-solving techniques and workplace procedures
  • developing resolutions in static and dynamics problems
  • identifying the scope of electrotechnology problems
  • obtaining and using equipment and testing devices for problem solving
  • reporting adverse effects in the developed solutions
  • reporting developed solutions and justification.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VU Polytechnic and/or via the Victoria University Polytechnic e-Learning system.
