This unit encourages students to integrate existing knowledge and skills and expand on these in new situations across the Speech Pathology communication domains. This unit focuses on the application of prior knowledge and skills to the domain of fluency. It will explore the Stuttering Speech Pathology domain in a range of indirect, consultancy, and advocacy-based speech pathology in working with individuals across their lifespan and from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and cultures. The Stuttering domain will be considered in the broader professional, regulatory, ethical and legal contexts in which speech pathology practice occurs. Explore speech pathology case studies necessitating consideration and interrogation of a range of professional and ethical issues and the role of the speech pathologist alongside that of other professionals in individual care. This unit will continue to explore issues and methods related to assessment and measurement of efficacy and effectiveness of interventions in an increasingly holistic context.
The unit has a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice with students applying prior learning to the design and development of an individual research project. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods will be explored in order to design a research question and proposal in preparation for the capstone research project.
