Overview

Students will undertake activities of applied and problem-based learning to develop stage appropriate competency in a range of dermal science and therapy skills and techniques. This includes client/skin and hair assessment, determining parameters of skin and hair health, and developing and performing a range of foundation dermal techniques to manage hair conditions in a safe and effective manner. Students will consolidate knowledge of the scientific basis and mechanism of treatments as well as patient health status and skin and hair tissue interactions or appropriate clinical endpoints in order to evaluate risks and manage complications. Students will develop skills and competency as evidence based clinical dermal practitioners.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Apply theory and practice of consultation, skin and hair assessment to determine appropriate parameters for foundation dermal treatments and evaluate efficacy of treatment strategies;
  2. Demonstrate competency in performing a range of foundation dermal skills and techniques;
  3. Interrogate and apply knowledge of the scientific basis and mechanism of treatments to practice; and
  4. Evaluate risks and manage complications associated with foundational dermal procedures.
