Overview

This unit focuses on innovation and change at an enterprise-leadership level to support block/intensive mode learning and teaching. The unit also has a specific emphasis on student-centred design of the student experience for block/intensive mode. The wider institutional factors are examined that influence the success of block/intensive mode learning and teaching, from a range of contexts. Strategic leadership strategies for developing and implementing a holistic educational reform program for block/intensive mode are explored, including the analysis and comparison of co-curricular models to promote student success. Participants will develop knowledge of institutional change requirements to support block/intensive mode delivery, from the perspective of institutions and their students. Participants will also develop a student-centred change and innovation plan to implement a new block/intensive model or enhance an existing program.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Investigate and critically report on the wider institutional factors influencing the success of block/intensive mode learning and teaching from a range of contexts, beyond the classroom;
  2. Relate change leadership theories, principles and practices that support block/intensive mode innovation, from the perspectives of both students and institutions;
  3. Analyse and compare different models of co-curricular service and programs for block/intensive mode that promote student success in block/intensive mode;
  4. Design and create a high-level enterprise change and innovation plan for a block/intensive mode implementation (or an enhancement project), that is student-centred;
  5. Identify own development needs and strengths in terms of knowledge, strategic leadership and innovation.
