High-achieving international student Nicole Gil says her experience at Victoria University (VU) surpassed her expectations and inspired her to do better in all aspects of her life.

“I chose VU because of the reviews I’d read and the worldwide university rankings. I knew I would have top-notch professors and be working with classmates who would come from diverse backgrounds and have the same goal - to learn and share their experiences with others.

I did not expect to meet professors who challenged how I see the world and inspired me to do better in all aspects of my life. I was also glad that the assessments for each unit were focused on real-life applications rather than just memorising theories. VU and the course surpassed my expectations.

I contributed to every class I attended. I asked questions, engaged my professors and classmates in dialogue and made sure that discussions were lively.

Motivated to help others maximise their potential and with an interest in interacting with people from different backgrounds, I completed the Master of Business (Industrial Relations/Human Resource Management).

In 2019, I was proud to win the Rumpf Award for Most Outstanding Postgraduate Student at the VU Business School Student Awards. I also had the opportunity to work as a student mentor and through VU’s Respect and Responsibility program contributing to online modules for VU students on Active Bystander Action and Respectful Relationships, and was a panel member for a VicHealth event on Active Bystander Action.

The amount of support I’ve received from other students, staff, and VU Careers has been overwhelming. I made the right decision to study at VU.”
