Luca Oppici has been awarded a 2015 UEFA grant, the only researcher outside Europe to win this prestigious award.
"In 2012, I came to Australia for a working holiday from Milan, Italy.
I met my current co-supervisor, Dr Fabio Serpiello, the following year. After I started working with him as a research assistant, he suggested I apply for a PhD scholarship. I won it and am now working on my PhD at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (ISEAL).
The facilities, labs and technology at VU are amazing, and the people here create a great learning environment. You can pretty much do whatever you want if you have good ideas.
My UEFA project, ‘The transfer of skills from futsal to football in youth players’ was one of only six to be selected for funding.
I’ve always played soccer and am lucky to do a PhD on the game!"
Luca Oppici’s PhD supervisors are Professor Damian Farrow, Dr Fabio Serpiello and Dr Derek Panchuk (AIS).
