Prepared for employment in engineering

After working in unrelated industries for four years, Kim Taylor’s passion for electronics led him to Victoria University (VU). He completed a Masters of Engineering to expand his career options.

"Since a very early age, I've always had a passion for electronics. After finishing school, it was very easy for me to study electronics engineering as an undergraduate course, but difficult to find work in electronics design due to our struggling market conditions. It became clear that employers were looking for people with industry experience or postgraduate qualifications.

I decided to pursue a masters degree to expand my career options – and VU provided the perfect opportunity. Not only does VU have an excellent reputation in the field, my supervisor was able to nominate an interesting research project that was matched to my skills and career goals.

The thing that I enjoyed most about studying at VU was the available teaching opportunities. This gave me the opportunity to improve both my knowledge of engineering topics and teaching skills. Obviously it's important to be well-versed in the content you're attempting to teach.

Since completing my masters, I've been able to move into digital design for video distribution equipment – a field that I've always been interested in. It's only through the completion of my masters project that I was able to enter this industry and I look forward to working in it for many years to come."
