VU Polytechnic student Benjamin Bwenge shares how studying English is helping him achieve his goals for his new life in Australia.
“I came to Australia in 2019 with my family of eight brothers and one sister. Including my mum and dad that’s 11 people in my family, and we all live together. We are from DR Congo, and we came through the Malawi camp.
“When I came to Australia I couldn't speak English even a little bit. While studying English lessons [at secondary school], my teachers mentioned VU and explained about the courses there. I got interested and wanted to give it a try.
“I chose my EAL courses because I had heard a lot of great things about it. I picked VU because I thought to myself that I was going to get the best education here.
“And it's true, I am actually getting the best education and I also have a lot of opportunities by studying at VU.”
Feeling welcomed & supported
“I started in Certificate II in EAL (Access) 22485VIC, then moved across to Certificate III in EAL (Access) 22486VIC, then Certificate III in EAL (Further Study) 22491VIC, and now I passed and moved to the last level which is Certificate IV in EAL (Access) 22487VIC.

“Outside of studying I like playing sports. I play a lot of sports but I love playing soccer the most.”

Studying English has had a huge impact on my life. I have improved and achieved a lot of things in my life, and one of the things that I have achieved through learning English is getting my license.
