On the road to success at VU
I chose VU because of the course structure, industry accreditations and, of course, the reputation of the University.
Dulitha Sameera (Sri Lanka)
Master of Project Management
Despite an abundance of universities to choose from, Dulitha Sameera knew he made the best decision when he began studying at Victoria University.
"I wanted to do my masters in project management because it has a big demand in the construction, engineering and science industries. There are so many universities in Australia offering courses to international students but I chose VU because of the course structure, industry accreditations and, of course, the reputation of the University."
Originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka, Dulitha studied VU’s Master of Project Management and is now employed at VicRoads, the State Government organisation which plans, develops and manages Victoria’s arterial road network.
As a project engineer, Dulitha’s responsibilities include planning, implementing and monitoring road and bridge works to meet quality, cost, time, safety and environmental objectives, coordinating quotes and contracts, and providing input into the design and maintenance of major roadworks.
Crediting VU for his graduate success, Dulitha says, "VU helped me to become a wanted person in this competitive workforce”.
"I studied a fully updated course which suits the modern project management techniques used in the industry, and the subjects were great. The lecturers always used current industry examples and our lectures were at night, so many students who are already working in the industry joined the course. This meant we had the chance to talk to real people in the industry and ask them what is happening out there, rather than studying theories in textbooks."
With VU’s accessible location, friendly and supportive staff and excellent facilities, Dulitha says he is “truly glad" he chose VU over other universities.
"VU gave me maximum support to achieve my goals. VU in Melbourne is the best place in the world to get qualified."
