About Qing Quan Liang

Professor Qing Quan (Stephen) Liang is a Professor of Structural Engineering in the College of Engineering and Science at Victoria University, Australia. He is also the Founder and President of Australian Association for Steel-Concrete Composite Structures (AASCCS), a member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and was a member of the ASCE Technical Committees on Optimal Structural Design and Composite Construction.

Professor Liang’s research interests are in the areas of:

  • steel-concrete composite structures
  • structural fire engineering
  • steel structures
  • concrete structures
  • structural optimisation
  • computational mechanics.

Professor Liang has contributed over 95 publications in these research areas, including 5 books and 50 journal articles in high-impact and high-ranking international journals. Professor Liang is the sole author of the research book Performance-Based Optimization of Structures: Theory and Applications (2004, Spon Press) and of the textbook Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures (2014, CRC Press), and the co-author of the research books Nonlinear Analysis of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Columns (2015, Scholar’s Press) and Concrete-Filled Stainless Steel Tubular Columns (2018, CRC Press). Professor Liang's books have been well received worldwide.

He received the ASCE 2004 State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award from ASCE.

He is a member of the editorial boards of several international journals, including Steel and Composite Structures-An International Journal.
