Victoria University teams raised more than $30,000 in the gruelling Oxfam Trailwalker endurance challenge held this weekend.

The 100-kilometre event was chosen to help mark the University’s 100th anniversary.

The top VU team, made up of James Nightingale, Bruce Miller, Kerry Schikle and Luke Postlethwaite, ran much of the track through the Dandenong and Yarra Valley Ranges in a time of 14 hours  52 minutes.

This put them in 11th place out of more than 700 teams.

The average time for all trailwalkers over the weekend-long event was 28 hours 24 minutes.

The event started in Jells Park and reached an altitude of just over 600 metres at Olinda, passing through Mt Evelyn, Woori Yallock, Milgrove, before finishing at Wesburn.

Trailwalkers braved long hours, sleepless nights and painful blisters, but it was worth it to support people living in poverty around the world, said participant Grant Meiksans.

Donations can still be made to support a VU Centurion team in its fundraising goals:
