Overview

Gain a clear understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and learn how to work with NDIS participants.

Course delivery

This course will be delivered online over 8 evening sessions. The sessions are 3 hours in duration.

This course will teach you how to assist an NDIS participant to achieve their goals in their support plan. You will develop an understanding of how to:

  • support an NDIS participant to achieve their day-to-day support plan goals
  • take appropriate action within a human rights framework to ensure NDIS participant personal safety
  • work safely when supporting an NDIS participant
  • complete and process required documentation
  • liaise effectively with others.

This qualification is intended for people who are new entrants into the disability sector or who would like to gain a greater understanding of the NDIS.

Please note: The Course in Introduction to NDIS 22469VIC is free for students eligible for concession and government-subsidised training. Enrolling in this course will not consume your once-off entitlement to a Free TAFE course.

Careers

Working in the disability and community services sector is a rewarding and challenging career. While this short course can provide a pathway to further qualifications, it is not meant to replace full certificate-level qualifications.

This course is designed for disability workers, aged care workers, nurses, education support workers, childcare worker, trades, personal trainers or individuals with other qualifications who work with people accessing the NDIS.

Course contents

In order to be issued a Statement of Attainment for 22469VIC Course in Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, a student must complete one (1) core unit of competency.

Gain a clear understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and learn how to work with NDIS participants. The course is intended for people who are new entrants into the disability sector or who would like to gain a greater understanding of the NDIS.

You will learn to assist NDIS participants to achieve their goals in their support plan. You will develop knowledge and skills in:

supporting an NDIS participant to achieve the goals identified in their day-to-day support plans;

take appropriate action within a human rights framework to ensure NDIS participant's personal safety;

work safely when supporting an NDIS participant;

complete and process required documentation, and;
-
liaise effectively with others.

This course is delivered in three (3) hour session once per week over nine(9) weeks, commonly one evening per week 6pm-9pm via online zoom sessions. It is expected participants will have basic IT skills and own computer.

Admission & pathways

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course. Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

As part of the application process, applicants must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) and undertake a literacy and numeracy (LN) assessment to determine course suitability and support needs.

Applicants are best placed to successfully undertake this course if they have language, literacy and numeracy skills that align with Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
