VU Community Celebrated in King’s Birthday 2025 Honours

Victoria University (VU) is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its community members, with many alumni, staff, partners, and supporters recognised in the prestigious King’s Birthday 2025 Honours List.
VU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Germov, commended the honourees for their exceptional contributions to society, which reflect the University’s commitment to creating meaningful change.
The remarkable accomplishments of our VU community members demonstrate the power of dedication, leadership, and service. Their recognition in this year’s Honours List is a testament to their unwavering commitment to improving lives and shaping a better future for all.
Among those honoured are distinguished individuals from diverse fields, including education, healthcare and community service. Their achievements highlight the far-reaching impact of VU’s values and mission.
This year’s honourees included Emeritus Professor Warren Payne, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Research Training at Victoria University, who was recognised for his significant contributions to tertiary education, health and sport science and community initiatives. Professor Payne also led the establishment of VU Research, a whole-of-University department responsible for the conduct and development of all of VU’s research and research training activities.
VU’s Chief Advancement Officer, Patrice O’Brien, also shared her pride in this year’s recipients:
- Jennifer Hunt – Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing), 1991
Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia. For service to animal welfare. - Distinguished Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos –former VU Senior Leader and Researcher (Vice-Chancellors Distinguished Professorial Fellow)
Member (AM) of the Order of Australia. For significant service to medical research, particularly immunology. - Emeritus Professor Warren Payne – former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President of Research and Research Training
Member (AM) of the Order of Australia. For significant service to sport and health medical research, and to the community. - Wayne Barnes – Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedicine) 1996
