Student election to the Academic Board 2017

Students are encouraged to become an elected member of the Academic Board.

Being a member of the Academic Board is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the principal academic and education advisory body of Victoria University. The Board reports to the University Council.

Call for student nominations

In accordance with the Academic Board Regulations 2017 and Elections Regulations 2016, nominations are called for the following categories:

  • Higher education (HE) degree by coursework course of study;
    Student must be elected by and from students enrolled in a HE by research course of study.
  • Higher education (HE) onshore international enrolled students;
    Student must be elected by and from (HE) onshore international enrolled students.

Each category has one student vacancy.

To nominate somebody, please complete the relevant category nomination form:

Each nomination must be proposed and seconded by two persons eligible to vote in the election and must be signed by the nominee. To be eligible to vote or nominate, you must be a student enrolled in the specific category that you are nominating to. That is, HE degree by research students can only nominate HE degree by research students. HE onshore international students can only nominate HE onshore international students. 

Nominations may be accompanied by a statement of policy by a candidate. The maximum permissible length of the statement should be 200 words. Any statements submitted will be distributed to voters if a ballot is required.

Nominations which are not received by the Governance and Secretariat at the Footscray Park campus before the close of nominations cannot be accepted


Call for nomination timeline

The call for nominations for the Student Election to the Academic Board opens at 9am on Thursday 31 August 2017 and closes at 5pm, Wednesday 13 September 2017 (Australian Eastern Standard Time, i.e. Melbourne time).

Nominations which are not received by the Governance and Secretariat at the Footscray Park campus before the close of nominations cannot be accepted.

Term of office

The term of office for these positions will start on 1 November 2017 and will end on 31 October 2019 unless terminated earlier.

Ballot (if required)

If the number of nominations received for the category does not exceed the number of vacancies to be filled, a ballot will not be conducted. The Returning Officer shall declare the candidate/s duly elected and will notify the members of the Academic Board of that election.

If more than the required nominations are received for the categories, a ballot will be conducted.  It is anticipated an electronic election will be conducted from 20 September to 2 October 2017 (5pm AEST).
