Footscray Art Prize open

Entries are now open for Australian artists to enter the biennial Footscray Art Prize and share in cash prizes of nearly $20,000.

The competition is aimed at celebrating the multicultural vibrancy and rich history of Footscray.

The Footscray Art Prize is expected to draw high-calibre submissions across four categories:

• Main Prize ($10,000 cash prize, open to all)
• Street Art ($5,000 cash prize, open to all)
• Tertiary Art ($1,500 cash prize open to university and art college students)
• Young Artist Prizes (two $500 cash prizes for artists under 18 from Melbourne’s west).

Winning works will be exhibited at the Footscray Community Arts Centre (Main Prize), VU at MetroWest (Tertiary Prize), Bluestone Church Arts Space (Young Artists Prizes) and various street locations in central Footscray (Street Art Prize).

VU Vice Chancellor Peter Dawkins said the Prize is a legacy of the University’s Centenary celebrations in 2016, and acknowledges the talents, vibrancy, and creativity of Australian artists.

How to enter

There are no restrictions on media, and entries can be submitted online.

Entries close on 3 March 2017 and winners will be announced in May 2017.

• Alcaston Gallery Founding Director Beverly Knight
• Footscray-born Indigenous artist Reko Rennie
• Incinerator Gallery Exhibition Program Curator Richard Ennis.
