Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to take instructions from a client in a legal services environment to support the organisation’s operations.
The unit applies to those work under supervision and apply solutions to a range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • take instructions from at least four clients in relation to different legal matters.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • common client instruction process and techniques
  • organisational policies and procedures for taking instruction including follow-up processes
  • legislation relevant to taking instruction in a legal environment
  • key client information required for task requirements
  • documentation storage processes.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the VU Learning Management System (LMS) called VU Collaborate.
