Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work positively with the carer and family of people using a service based on an understanding of their support needs.This unit applies to workers across a range of community services contexts. Work may be carried out under direct, indirect or remote supervision.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • recognise and respond to the support needs of the carer or family members of at least three different people who are using the service
  • provide support to the carer or family of one person undergoing a change in care arrangements including identification of risks and use of strategies to address risks.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
