Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead diversity for a work area. It covers implementing the organisation’s diversity policy, fostering diversity within the work team and promoting the benefits of a diverse workplace.The unit applies to individuals who direct the work of others in teams of variable sizes. They may work with staff from different cultures, races, religions, generations, or other forms of difference in any industry context.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
*lead diversity and inclusion initiatives for an organisation or work area.
In the course of the above, the candidate must:
*implement strategies to improve awareness of challenges experienced by individuals from diverse groups in the work team
*follow procedures for handling complaints or harassment allegations
*promote the benefits of diversity to others both internally and externally.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
