In this unit, you will develop practical design skills and professional capabilities through applied civil engineering projects. Working in small teams, you will undertake two design tasks of varying complexity, primarily in the fields of water and road engineering. These projects will require you to collect and interpret data, perform technical calculations, develop engineering drawings, and prepare written reports and presentations that reflect industry expectations.
One of the design projects will be developed and delivered in collaboration with an external civil engineering organisation, giving you direct exposure to current professional practices and client-based project requirements. Through these experiences, you will strengthen your technical knowledge, teamwork, and communication skills while building confidence in managing design processes from concept to presentation.
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
Required readings will be made available on VU Collaborate.
