Overview

This unit is designed to provide an introduction to business Chinese with the emphasis on developing listening and speaking skills. Through the Chinese phonetic system, simple conversations, basic vocabulary and sentence patterns, this unit provides a foundation to conduct a simple conversation in a business context.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the use of Chinese language and its structure in simple situations;
  2. Role-play basic greetings and expressions for daily communication in business settings;
  3. Read and write basic Chinese characters and words; and
  4. Describe China’s contemporary culture and China's changing environment and current business practices.
