Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to use the fundamental features and language of personal computers or other digital devices to perform a simple function and to access language learning activities. It requires the ability to access and use a digital device to complete language learning activities. This unit is designed for those who are unfamiliar with personal computers or other digital devices and who wish to improve their knowledge and use to support personal, educational or employment opportunities. Learners at this level may request support and begin to develop their own support resources.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • follow sequential instructions

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • digital devices and their common usage in everyday life including:
    o how to access and use common functions
    o common terminology used in relation to digital devices
    o different security options available on digital devices
    o netiquette conventions when communicating via a digital device
    o simple issues experienced when using digital devices and methods for resolving them.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
