VU23452 - Provide design solutions for residential buildings
Overview
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply the theories and principles of design to the design of residential buildings (National Construction Code (NCC) Classes 1 and 10) construction.
It requires the ability to research, analyse and evaluate information on the history and elements of architecture and their influence on current practice. It includes developing a design response, which meets the requirements of a project brief, and communicating a final design solution to relevant stakeholders.This unit applies to building designers who apply the principles, theories and emerging trends of design to residential building projects within the legal responsibilities of building designers.
Assessment
For Melbourne campuses
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
• develop design solutions that meet the requirements of the project brief, planning and regulatory controls for at least two residential designs based on NCC Classes 1 and 10
In completing the above, there must also be evidence that the learner has, for each design solution:
• applied architectural concepts to the built form
• communicated the design solutions to stakeholders using presentation media.
Required reading
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VU Polytechnic and/or via the Victoria University Polytechnic e-Learning system.
