Overview

EAP 5B is specialised 5-week unit focusing on the development of academic language skills for students who want to enter an undergraduate course at VU. EAP 5B consolidates academic language and skills at an Advanced level of English. Core language and academic skills are developed to facilitate student access to academic conventions and expectations in an Australian academic context. After successful completion of EAP 5B, students will have demonstrated that they have me the English admission requirements for entry into VU HE courses that require an IELTS of 6.0 or equivalent.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Listening: Demonstrate critical understanding of complex texts;
  2. Reading:: Comprehend, analyse & critically evaluate information from a range of texts;
  3. Writing: Write a complex group case study report applying theory to a practical problem on an unfamiliar topic; can write a complex academic essay demonstrating the ability to construct a chain of reasoned argument; and
  4. Speaking: Work collaboratively to prepare and deliver a formal seminar presentation based on a complex topic.
