Overview

The unit will aim to develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking, grammar and vocabulary skills necessary to undertake the EAP 4 unit.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Listening: 1. Identify the key content of short oral texts; 2. Comprehend & respond to a range of oral texts on familiar topics; 3. Follow simple face-to-face conversations on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  2. Reading: 1. Identify basic text features, types & register; 2. Identify key content in a range of short texts; 3. Comprehend & respond to a range of short texts.
  3. Writing: 1. Write a range of information texts: paragraphs /essays /sets of instructions; 2. Write a text about a familiar situation event or experience; 3. Follow a simple planning, drafting & editing process.
  4. Speaking: 1. Engage in a range of conversations on general topics; 2. Prepare and give a talk on a familiar topic; 3. Follow a simple planning, drafting & editing process.
