Overview

This unit provides students with knowledge related to many field-based environments and activities utilised in the outdoor recreation/education and adventure sports industry. Students will investigate concepts and phenomena such as Geography, Geomorphology, Hydrology and Weather related to their professional practice upon which further theoretical and practical skill development can occur.


Upon completing the unit, students will have a foundational understanding of interpreting specific natural environments and ecosystems relating to the delivery of outdoor recreation/education and adventure sports outcomes. This unit will be primarily class-based, with outdoor field teaching as required.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Interpret interactions of different geomorphological phenomenon and environmental factors involved in informing the delivery of outdoor recreation/education and adventure sport outcomes;
  2. Determine the professional practice knowledge requirements to operate within a diverse range of outdoor environments; and,
  3. Gather data from appropriate sources to apply to the facilitation of Outdoor Recreation/Education and Adventure Sport activities.
