Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes skills and knowledge required to complete full or partial braiding finishes to hair as quick service designs.


This unit applies to salon assistants who work in hairdressing salons under close supervision and with guidance from more experienced or senior hairdressers. They use little judgement and follow the instructions specified by the hairdresser who has completed the client consultation and manages the client service. It can also apply to more senior hairdressers completing braiding services.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • follow supervising hairdresser’s instructions to braid hair for five different clients and consistently achieve the planned outcome using these braiding techniques: two strand for two clients; three strand for two clients; multi strand for one client and explain braiding home hair maintenance to each client at the conclusion of the service.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the VU and/or via the e-learning system.
