Overview

Health Economics and Theory introduces students to economics and micro-economics suitable for students with no prior experience in economic studies. Students are equipped to apply micro-economic concepts to contemporary public health and health care issues. The unit prepares students to critically analyse the supply and demand for health services and care within the context of the broader markets of health, from local to global perspectives. Students will interrogate, using health economic theories, the role of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in the successes and failures of the health market. The unit also explores the systems and policies of health care and government support systems (i.e., Medicare) using health economics theories.
